Sun’s out, fun’s out! Thanks Alice Longyu Gao!

NYC-based Chinese performance artist and DJ Alice Longyu Gao first caught our attention a couple of months back when she brought her bright vision to Times Square via a pop-up installation called PERICURA, which was all about celebrating differences and exploring beauty, physical appearance and death.

The 23-year-old Japan fan is widely admired for her otherworldly beauty looks, eclectic DJ sets across the world and her work for fashion show soundtracks, including Juicy Couture AW18. Earlier this week she released her totally animated rainbow sparkle of a debut single, Princess Of Manifestation, which she describes as super positive. “I hope I can spread a curing energy through the cuteness of the song. However, my heart is pierced by the brutal human nature and my soul is overly consumed by society.” Yikes.

Inspired by the J-pop she has been listening to since the age of 10, Alice sings in Japanese, which she calls her artistic expression of choice. “When I am speaking Japanese, I feel like I am riding on a pure energy and I can aspire to pure joy and a brighter life,” she tells i-D. Same, tbh. “Princess of Manifestation symbolises the potential of my 15-year-old self, and leads me to my next art installation piece in which I will discuss age discrimination.”

To celebrate the release, Alice has made us a fun, sun-kissed mix featuring the likes of Junglepussy, EMMANUELLE, Lion Babe and Agar Agar to see you through the weekend. “This mix is for summmmer! (NY finally became hot today :D) so it’s very smooth and chill, housey with some cool rap and vocals.” Enjoy!
