New York Fashion Week has been having a bit of a crisis of late. The once-fashion behemoth continues to struggle keeping its key designers on schedule. The departure of Alexander Wang, who’s opted to show in June and December to be in-line with pre-collection sales, is just the latest. Raf Simons’ Calvin Klein, the return of Rodarte and Proenza Schouler, and staples like Jeremy Scott and Marc Jacobs will offer some pulling power, but NYFW is having trouble keeping designers from heading to Paris — the only other eight-day long Fashion Week — which has stars in abundance.
Consequently some of the biggest talking points of recent seasons have been those of celebrity-designer crossovers. Yeezy. Fenty x Puma. This season, it looks set to be Rihanna’s foray into underwear. Savage x Fenty will present an “immersive experience” somewhere in Brooklyn, with the collection available to buy immediately after the show. Though it might not be the big fashion needed to reawaken NYFW, if we’ve learnt anything from Rihanna’s previous shows there’ll be high-octane energy and mega casting in abundance.
