Sia wrote a comeback single for Steps???

An ambitious crossover event if there ever was one.

Best known for late 90s mega-hits such as “5,6,7,8”, “Tragedy” and “Better The Devil You Know”, dance-pop legends Steps have announced the release of a comeback record… penned by none other than Sia herself.

The group — Claire Richards, Lee Latchford-Evans, Lisa Scott-Lee, Faye Tozer and Ian “H” Watkins — plan to tour the new album in arenas across the UK late 2021, by which time coronavirus will have, uh, expired hopefully? Fingers crossed.

“What The Future Holds”, the album’s title track, was gifted to the group by pop giant Sia who — if you didn’t already know — has written songs for Beyoncé, Rihanna and Kylie, as well as her own chart-toppers. So, it’s basically already a certified banger. “She wrote the track for herself but realised it wasn’t really for her and gave it to us,” said Claire in a recent interview with The Sun. “It’s not like it was in the bottom of a drawer somewhere. It was her who said, ‘We should give this to Steps because it would really suit them’.” Aw!

The Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter is, as it turns out, a massive Steps fan. Who knew? “She has Steps on her playlists, which is great,” said Lisa, adding that the love is very much mutual: “I am such a huge Sia fan. Her music is completely up my street, I have so much admiration for her as an artist and a songwriter, so I’m in pop heaven.” Us too, Lisa. Us too.
