Artist Dan Colen’s Sky High Farm, the produce from which fights food insecurity in New York, features in the latest issue of i-D. During the pandemic, they’ve been busy in their upstate acres growing tons of food for local food banks, and to date, they’ve delivered more than 69 tons of meat and vegetables to food banks and pantries throughout the state. Now, after nine years, Dan and the farm are entering a new decade as an official 501c3 non-profit charitable organization.
What this means is that they’ll be able to feed a lot more people with their ethically, sustainably and organically cultivated and produced food. They’ve also launched a Go Fund Me, the aim of which is to double their production and expand Sky High Farm’s mission — explained in the video below. And this Thursday, you can hear Dan, Qiana Mickie and Linda Goode Bryant in Conversation with Sonia Chopra on the issue of food security, which might explain better why the work that Sky High Farm does is so important. Even in more normal times, 2.4 million New Yorkers suffer from food insecurity, 900,000 of whom are children, so the work of the farm has never been more necessary.
