The cast of Twin Peaks have joined forces for a viral campaign to “save” the show’s planned 2016 revival after David Lynch dropped out over the weekend. Lynch, who created the cult US drama with Mark Frost, announced on Sunday that he is no longer planning to direct the nine new episodes ordered by US premium cable network Showtime. “I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done,” Lynch explained on Twitter. “I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently.”

Responding swiftly to his exit, actress Mädchen Amick – who played Shelly Johnson in the famously surreal early 90s series – has posted a video on her WhoSay page titled “Twin Peaks without David Lynch is like…” The two-minute compilation features clips of various Twin Peaks cast members explaining how Lynch’s departure will affect the revival series using some suitably strange and evocative metaphors. Sherilyn Fenn – aka Audrey Horne – claims that “Twin Peaks without David Lynch is like eyes without brows”, while Laura Palmer actress Sheryl Lee says it is “like a girl without a secret”.

Though Twin Peaks‘ lead actor Kyle MacLachlan is notably absent from the video, Lynch’s eldest daughter Jennifer makes an appearance, noting decisively: “It’s like a hole with no doughnut. No Twin Peaks without David Lynch.” Her father has yet to respond to the viral video, but in a statement released shortly after his exit, Showtime maintained that the director could still return to the project. The network’s President David Nevins said: “Showtime also loves the world of Twin Peaks and we continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm.”
