these streets are paved with glitter: nyc creatives get inspired
Step into the New York wonderland of L-Vis 1990, Samantha Urbani, and Tennessee Thomas. Photographer Petra Collins shoots these creative musical wunderkinds in the spots that most exhilarate them around the city, from Greenpoint to the karaoke bars of…
New York runs on a different clock than the rest of the world. Most creative people who thrive here couldn't be adequately stimulated, challenged, satiated by the natural flow of any other place.Samantha wearscoat, bag, scarf, andjewelry Coach. Boots and earrings her own.
L-Vis 1990, music producer/DJ, photographed near his studio in Greenpoint. It's the small day to day things and encounters with people that make NYC special for me. A conversation with a bodega dude at 5am, an Uber ride back from JFK bumping HOT 97 with a driver from my neighborhood. I love hearing stories about what led people to the city.
No matter what walk of life you come from, everyone is here hustling to achieve something and it feels like we are all in it together. That collective energy really inspired me and pushes me to create non-stop.L-Vis wearsjacket andbackpack, Coach. Pants his own.
Tennessee Thomas, shopkeeper/drummer/DJ, photographed at The Deep End Club and Central Park.Tennesseewearscoat, skirt andbag Coach. Shirt and earrings her own.
New York is the most exciting city in the world. People come here from all over to live their dreams and find their tribes. It's got a crazy energy. It's like living in a theme park.Tennessee wearsjacket andbag Coach. Jeans Frame Denim. T-shirt her own.
The Deep End Club is my clubhouse. It's an activist community center and shop selling things made by local artists and designers. We also have gigs, teach-ins, and arts and crafts workshops.Tennessee wearsjacket, silk square, booties andbag Coach. Jeans andT-shirt her own.
