There are plain T-shirts, slogan T-shirts, band T-shirts worn by people with precisely zero knowledge of said band’s back catalogue, ancient T-shirts from your old sports team to serve as a nice reminder that once upon a time you did exercise. Point is, one can never have too many T-shirts. Which is why we’re thrilled that Browns’ menswear team are back curating round two of their ‘Just a T-Shirt’ line.
The premise: they pick a bunch of brilliant artists and put their images… on a T-shirt. Last season they had work from the likes of contemporary artist-filmmaker Oliver Payne and Canadian artist and writer Brad Phillips embossed upon the shirts. This time round they’ve tapped the likes of photographer and i-D contributor Mark Lebon (green or yellow tee with pictures of various dinners on it), art director, Nervemeter magazine founder Kieron Livingstone (print of different faces with the word SMILE splashed across the top) and American photographer Jason Fulford (letterbox pic).
The T-shirts are £45, which may not be as cheap as the $4 Supreme ones that accidentally made their way into Kmart, but, quite frankly, £45 is an extraordinarily good price for something that functions as art AND clothing. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, you can never have too many tees.
