Timothée Chalamet stans rejoice – Timmy is coming to London to star in a play. It was announced today that the actor would be making his London stage debut at the historic Old Vic in April 2020. The former i-D cover star will be joining legendary British actor Dame Eileen Atkins in a production of Amy Herzog’s Pulitzer prize-nominated play 4000 Miles.
Timmy will play Leo, a 21-year-old who sets out at the beginning of summer on a cycle trip across America with a friend. After disappearing for weeks, he turns up at his 91-year-old grandmother Vera’s Manhattan apartment. As per the Old Vic: “His life just starting, hers nearly ended, in a faded Greenwich Village apartment their griefs collide.”
It sounds rather brilliant, does it not? Of course, this isn’t Timmy’s first time at the rodeo – in 2016, he starred in an off-Broadway production of John Patrick Shanley’s play Prodigal Son, a performance that the New York Times said confirmed “his status as a rising star”. He also appeared in a 2011 production of The Talls by Anna Kerrigan.
Speaking about the decision to put on the play, Old Vic artistic director Matthew Warchus said, “I’m very much looking forward to working with this exceptional cast on [Amy Herzog’s] gorgeous play, which abounds with intimate beauty and truth.”
Naturally, tickets for this are going to be in more demand than Elio’s discarded peach or King Henry V’s bowl cut. It’s also not 100% clear how long the play’s run is, either. However, if you’re keen on picking up tickets here’s what you need to know. If you’re a “friend” of the Old Vic, tickets go on sale as early as tomorrow (Nov 21). There are various tiers of friendship, which cost anywhere between £65 to £499. These also don’t include tickets.
Fear not, though, as there is a general sale for those who don’t have cash to flash. For us normies, tickets go on sale on 3rd December at 12 noon. Check out the Old Vic’s website for more deets. How very exciting.
