On Monday, Tommy Hilfiger brought summer back to a post-Labor Day New York City with 32 crocheted bucket hats, 11 knit bikinis, and endless Rasta-inspired outfits. Gigi Hadid alongside her sister, Bella, and a gang of equally sunkissed and beach-ready models released a wave of summertime nostalgia as they ended the show wading into Tommy’s dreamy caribbean lagoon in Pier 36.
Besides Gigi’s out-of-this-world body, the 70s stole the show. The collection was filled with tropical tunics, floral sack bags, and quilted ball gowns, all creating a retro coastal feel. Beautiful flowing, evening dresses sent us back to a vintage Miami, conjuring Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface-esque glamor. The models even sported flower child middle parts and hippie-ish hair wraps, as they cascaded down the replicated boardwalk.
The designer blended his classic all-american girl with a 70s free spirit. Clean collared day dresses were intermixed with crochet bikinis and skimpy crop tops. An updated drug rug came down the runway immediately after an elegant patterned maxi-dress. But the cropped satin bombers and bright pinks and blues kept the collection distinctly Tommy, even if the models seemed to walk to a reggae rhythm.
