In July of 2015, Japanese mega-retailer Uniqlo, in collaboration with UK born designer Hana Tajima, entered into the Muslim-minded market with a modestwear collection in soft fabrics for everyday life. “From front pleats to flattering silhouettes that don’t hug the body, every detail of these garments has been designed to convey femininity and deliver all-day comfort.” reads Uniqlo’s website. Now, they’re coming to the US.

Perhaps more necessary than ever before, a collection that transcends geography and religion follows the rise of H&M’s Muslim campaign model Mariah Idrissi, the “Hijarbie,” and Dolce & Gabbana’s newly-launched couture hijab collection. The Muslim fashion market is widely reported as the fastest growing consumer base with a projected $484 billion sales by 2019 and fast-fashion giant Uniqlo is committed to being at the forefront of the progression. Tajima points out to Fashionista that it’s important that the fashion industry is “seeing beyond a target market to get at why a woman wants to dress a certain way, regardless of religious or cultural labels.”

Following the success of their first collaboration, Uniqlo is teaming up with Tajima again for spring/summer 16. But this time the modestwear collection — including hijabs, kebayas, blouses, tapered and relaxed pants and long, flowing skirts — will be available in the United States online and in Uniqlo’s flagship store in New York, as soon as February 26th.
