Magnum, i-D and Xavier Dolan have teamed up for Be True To Your Pleasure – a once-in-a-lifetime short film competition presented by Vie Magnifique. We’re inviting independent filmmakers to send in ideas for shorts about personal pleasure, indulgence and the joy of letting go.

A judging panel, which includes Xavier Dolan, will choose the best three stories. The winners will then get production support, financial grants, and – here’s the best bit – a mentorship from Dolan himself to actually make the films. The finished films will be premiered this September on i-D.

    Xavier Dolan
Since his debut feature I Killed My Mother was released in 2009, the twenty-five year old Canadian has become a venerated auteur. Cynical critics who thought he was simply a provocateur, an enfant terrible, were silenced by 2014’s triumphant, Jury Prize-winning, Mommy – (an award he shared with Jean-Luc Godard, by the way). A master of style and genre, Dolan’s work is intimate, hedonic but never self-indulgent.

    The Judges
Alongside Xavier, we’ve got two estimable judges to choose which three ideas encapsulate best being ‘True To Your Pleasure’:

Jacqui Edenbrow – An executive producer at VICE in London, Jacqui’s other credits include Peter Strickland’s ‘Bjork: Biophilia Live’ and ‘Joy Division’ which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival.

Danny Gabai – VICE’s executive creative director in charge of its Los Angeles office, Danny used to be an agent at WME for clients like Roman Coppola and Chris Milk.
