when the stars of disney and fashion align

In light of Donald Duck’s cameo appearance on the Gucci spring/summer 17 menswear catwalk, we share eight of our favourite Disney x fashion collaborations.

Hiya toots! Yes, that’s right your favourite cartoon duck, Donald, (soz, Daffy) has flown all the way from the wonderful world of Disney to Gucci’s sumptuous spring/summer 17 menswear catwalk in Milan. Embroidered onto colourful vests and stitched onto swanky white suits, Donald’s bright yellow bill and blue sailor threads are unmissable. But of course, this isn’t the first time the stars of Disney and high fashion have aligned, in fact here are a few of our fave instances below.

    Bobby Abley

Having spent his childhood wishing to he could be part of the Little Mermaid’s world, he finally made her part of his for his autumn/winter 15 collection. Yep, that’s right all the underwater crew were there – Ariel, Flounder, Sebastian, Ursula, Flotsam and/or Jetsam – on t-shirts, sweaters, shorts, and even an under the sea skateboard. Who are you calling a guppy?

    Katie Eary

Oh Mickey, you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow our mind, hey Mickey. Also having a mind blown moment was British menswear designer Katie Eary who sent some eerie looking Mickey Mouse masks down her autumn/winter 14 catwalk. Only this was Mickey reimagined as a punk, because, well, why not?

    Givenchy

The amount of tears shed when Bambi’s mother was shot was enough to make a small ocean, however thanks to Riccardo Tisci’s autumn/winter 13 collection for Givenchy, her legacy shall always be remembered in the lasting image of her son etched on to sweaters, t-shirts and bags. Slight difference though, with Bambi being merged with a rather raunchy human female form.

    Commes des Garçons

Let it go, let it go! Or not as the case was for Rei Kawakubo’s iconic brand Commes des Garçons, who instead letting things go, decided to memorialise some of your favourite characters from Frozen for all eternity by printing their image on to t-shirts, button downs, tote bags and pocket squares for their 2014 winter capsule collection.

    Marc Jacobs

For the final Marc by Marc Jacobs collaboration, the American designer took us on a trip down the rabbit hole and into the weird and wonderful world of Alice in Wonderland. From talking doorknobs to Cheshire cat smiles, some of Lewis Carol’s most iconic characters featured on iPhone covers, sweatshirts, keyrings, and t-shirts. Eat me, drink me, wear me.

    Rodarte

For autumn/winter 14, the Mulleavy sisters took us to a galaxy far, far away with their Star Wars inspired collection. Yep, that’s right, The Force was flying high that season with Yoda, C-3PO, Luke Skywalker all making an appearance.

    Vetements

And then there was the time that Vetements did Disney (or was it Vetements doing Rodarte?) in the only way that Vetements knows how. By taking the Mickey (mouse). However, instead of Star Wars, it was Star Girls, and instead stills from vintage George Lucas films, Demna Gvasalia, appropriated the poster image for Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, and turned it into Rihanna’s favourite skirt.

    Jeremy Scott

It was all things House of Mouse for Jeremy Scott when fashion’s enfant terriblé channelled Mickey’s ride or die girlfriend Minnie for his autumn/winter 09 collection and again for his 2010 collaboration with adidas.
