Lovable Atlanta rapper Young Thug is living up to his eccentric reputation, recently revealing that he’s changing his name to something really quite distinctive. In an interview on the Rap Radar podcast, 300 Entertainment founder Lyon Cohen said, “Young Thug is not going to be Young Thug anymore.” Lyon announced: “His new name is going to be ‘No, My Name is Jeffery.'” Yep, that’s right: “No, My Name Is Jeffery.”Although it doesn’t quite roll off the tongue the same as Snoop Dogg’s change to “Snoop Lion” or Puff Daddy’s to “P. Diddy,” we’re sure it will grow on us.
Cohen didn’t share the reasons for the unexpected change, which edges closer towards Thugger’s birth name, Jeffery Lamar Williams. But he did go on to say: “And the reality is, when you see this commercial, you’re all going to understand what we do here at 300. Because it’s powerful images of what makes someone Young Thug and what the evolution and how someone is Jeffery. It’s a circular thing, it’s important. ‘No, My Name is Jeffery’ is on its way. Please respect us to actually segue and utilize his name going forward because it’s important.”
The interesting name change comes alongside the news that the rapper FKA Young Thug will release his new mixtape titled Jeffery on his 25 birthday tomorrow, August 16. No, My Name Is Jeffery shared a handwritten tracklist for the release on his Twitter and Instagram.
