The Great Gatsby director Baz Luhrmann has unveiled the cast for his new Netflix show The Get Down, which will tell the story of four teenage boys from the Bronx in the 1970s, set against a New York City on the brink of bankruptcy and about to give creative birth to punk, hip hop and disco. The 13 episode music-driven drama has brought in talent from across the U.S. to fill the roles, including one Bronx teen TJ Brown, 14, who was discovered by The Get Down casting team while rapping and dancing on the NYC subway.

The other three leads are already experienced in front of the camera: Atlanta-born 19-year-old Shameik Moore was a breakout star at this year’s Sundance in the comedy Dope; 16-year-old Skylan Brooks will star opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Southpaw later this year; and Californian Justice Smith, 19, who appears in Paper Towns in June, which also stars Cara Delevingne.

In The Get Down the boys will form a crew from The Bronx armed with nothing more than spray cans, improvised dance steps and magic markers whose journey through Manhattan takes them from their neighbourhood tenements to the SoHo art scene, legendary rock hangout CBGBs to Studio 54 and the heights of the then newly-built World Trade Center.

Sounds great, right? The only snag is The Get Down is not due to air on Netflix until 2016, so we’ve got a wait on our hands.
