From Byzance to Bombay, Edinburgh to Dallas, and now finally settling in the snowy climes of Salzburg, Chanel’s 30th Métiers d’Art was its most magical show yet. Celebrating a history of fine craftsmanship and paying tribute to the artisanal workshops around the world, which provide the House with everything from beads to lace, the show was an Austrian symphony in Alpine chic.
Set in the grand library of the Leopoldskron Castle, the whole room filled with excitement as the likes of Cara, Lara, Edie, Kendal, and Jean Baptiste Giabiconi took to the catwalk, dressed in forest green frocks, warm tweeds, wide tuxedo trousers in red, black and grey, with boldly coloured stripes going down the side, touches of gold here and there, fine leather and other heavily embroidered fabrics, and accessorized with elegant lace up boots, smart Tyrolean hats, and delicate white lace collars. Inspired by an elevator operator’s jacket, which Coco Chanel caught sight of while holidaying in Austria, the iconic Chanel jacket took centre stage. Perfect for hunting, house parties in the country, or long leisurely walks, we’ll take the lot, please!
