Three designers with three different kinds of vision in mind. Helen Lawrence, Louise Alsop and Ed Marler dress the form with individuality and futuristic invention. Helen Lawrence went for softly muted colour ways and layered ensembles and her girls made statements with sheer latex shapes underpinning organically shaped jackets. Emblazoned ‘X’s marked the spot on her subtly crafted chest plate tops as, dare I say it, her grungily inspired baggie trousers swept the floor. She considers a glimpse of body as part of the design sheathed in capes, skirts, shorts and tunics.
Louise Alsop likewise has a new age notion of femininity, shredded edges and layers of organza block shaped tunics in grays, yellows, off whites and blacks. Bits hanging off and the return of the ‘stringy thingy’. The overall look is serene and un-fussed… still don’t overlook the detail in her texturized print detail and intricate shaping.
Ed Marler made his debut this season and his gang is epically vampiric. A faded opulence of colour, bejeweled bandana crowns (I want!), lace and laced up garments gave the impression of rebels with a cause. He says they’re ‘disparate characters who fit together because they’ve each been bitten but wouldn’t normally’. An elegant and eccentric wardrobe, lavish and yet functional Marler is crafting a scenario with dash and statement making aesthetic.
