It’s a historic moment for L’Oreal Paris, as the brand announces its first ever Asian American spokeswoman, none other than i-D fave Soo Joo Park. Following in the footsteps of Lara Stone, Jenifer Lopez and Liya Kibede, the bleached blonde babe’s birthday dreams came true when the brand made the announcement earlier today. ”I really couldn’t ask for a better present,” she told Style.com.

With the call for diversity within fashion growing louder and louder, and with more and more models of different backgrounds and ethnicities being cast in campaigns and catwalk shows, the announcement couldn’t have come at a more appropriate time. “The thing is that I’m Asian, but I’m also Asian-American and I think growing up in America and having a multicultural background, you know where you stand but you also want to melt into the pot. It’s such an honor, but I also think the world is getting smaller and the globalization of commerce is influencing industries like beauty and fashion. So to be the first to represent a global brand is a huge honor. But I don’t want to be just that one thing; I want to be the global ambassador.” One small step for L’Oreal, and a giant leap for diversity the world over.
