An emergency protest has been called in London tonight in response to reports of the increasing horrifying situation in the war-torn Syrian city Aleppo. The #Youth4Aleppo demonstration will gather outside the Prime Minister’s 10 Downing Street address, 6.30 — 8pm tonight (Tuesday 13 December).
“The situation in Syria has become critical,” the organisers write on the demonstration event page. “This is an emergency protest in Solidarity with Aleppo and calling for an immediate ceasefire and the delivery of humanitarian aid by international organisations,” they continue, adding a request to “Please spread the word and bring your friends and family. Please also bring any signs or placards with messages for Aleppo. #SaveAleppo”.
The UN’s human rights office confirmed in a press conference this morning that they have “reliable evidence that in four areas 82 civilians were shot on sight,” the BBC report, noting that the spokesperson Rupert Colville said, “We’re filled with the deepest foreboding for those who remain in this last hellish corner [of eastern Aleppo]”. It is being widely reported that journalists and activists in Aleppo have described the situation as a genocide on social media, with many posting messages that they say they expect to be their last.
Youth4Aleppo organisers are urging people who cannot attend the protest to email their MP, asking them to take action on the issue.
The #Youth4Aleppo demonstration is tonight, 6.30 — 8pm, at 10 Downing Street in central London.
