Happy Monday! The new week is here and with it comes the chance to delve deep into some fresh culture and fashion. Here’s your latest look at the i-D Guide.
Wear… a Gucci bag
The summer is, meteorologically speaking, over this week. Gone are the days of us running out the house with our phone in our pockets and no cares in the world. It’s time to return to the days of leaving your house with layers, laptops, every single moisturiser and cold treatment under the sun. If you’d been saving your Gucci tote for your beach towel this summer, it’s time to swap it out. Don’t own one at all? Get one now, or live in deep regret forever. You can grab the Gucci jumbo GG tote here.
Snag… Costa Brazil
Francisco Costa was the creative director of womenswear at Calvin Klein for 14 years, and worked alongside Tom Ford at Gucci before that. Now, the Brazilian fashion figure can be found crafting magic in the beauty space. His brand, Costa Brazil, is clean, luxurious and environmentally responsible, creating everything from a new fragrance, to bath salts and face serums. The products walk the walk, but Francisco’s deft attention to detail mean the creative campaigns around them are equally stunning. Check them out at Harrods here.
Watch… Official Competition
Penélope Cruz leads up the cast of this biting satire about a wealthy businessman who enlists a hyped arthouse film director to make the movie he had always dreamed of. Reviews were strong when it premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year (in the official competition, of course). You can now catch it in UK cinemas.
Read… Holy Island
The exquisitely cool indie publisher Loose Joints have unveiled a new link up between photographer Kingsley Ifill and renowned painter Danny Fox. Holy Island marks the artists’ third collaboration, formed in December 2021, when the duo set off on a journey from Britain’s southern-most point to the isles of Scotland. On paper and on camera, they captured what they saw. Holy Island is the documentation of that trip. You can buy it here.
Listen to… Isabella Lovestory
What do you get when you mix Britney, reggaeton, Kate Bush and a load of fucking? A star like Isabella Lovestory. Based in Montreal but with her roots in Honduras, she’s created an energetic, sexed-up, highly charged collection of unorthodox alt-pop. Music to get down and dirty to, and then eat your partner afterwards. Stream the new track “Sexo Amor Dinero” above.
Go to… Venice Film Festival
Film festivals are usually closed off, exclusionary events where films are shown early to the masses before their general release. But if you’re lucky to live in Italy, you’ll have the chance to see a handful of the year’s most anticipated movies ahead of time. Don’t Worry Darling; Bones and All; Blonde; Pearl; White Noise… the list is endless! All of them have their world premieres at Venice, which kicks off on Wednesday. Snag your tickets here.
