five reasons we’re excited for nyfw: mens

With the CFDA behind it, the four-day New York Fashion Week: Mens season is charging full steam ahead this week with shows and presentations from hometown heavy hitters and up-and-comers alike. From Vans and Louis Vuitton collaborator Takashi Murakami…

Jellyfish Eyes Launch at Opening Ceremony: If you passed by OC on the morning of Takashi Murakami’s Vans launch last month, you know just how much fanfare the prolific Japanese artist ignites. The cult collaborator is back at Howard Street tonight to celebrate the premiere of his first feature length film, Jellyfish Eyes. Before the film opens at the IFC, OC’s got official movie merch including collectable dolls, tees, and super cute accessories.

Thom Browne’s new officeman: Fresh from showing some goth-leaning, kimono-inspired suits in Paris just two weeks ago, Thom Browne returns to his home turf with a completely different spring/summer 16 collection, vaguely titled “the officeman.” Given the brand’s history of elaborate and imaginative performance-cum presentations, we’re stoked to see what Browne will bring to New York.

Twin Shadow takes Public School: Last September, Anna Wintour was tapping her toes to Twin Shadow’s live soundtrack for Public School’s spring/summer 15 show. This season, George Lewis Jr is teaming back up with the brand, again providing the sound design as well as walking in the show himself. Although Dao-Yi Chow’s and Maxwell Osborne have plunged into their new gig at the helm of DKNY, we’re still excited to see what’s in store for their primary brand. What’s more, Lewis will also be front row blogging several men’s week shows for Tumblr, so Wintour better slide over.

McQ x True Photo Journal Launch: McQ is headed across the pond to celebrate the launch of True Photo Journal‘s very first issue. A new photography publication showcasing the unpublished personal projects of both established and emerging talents, the Journal’s inaugural issue sees contributions from Annemarieke van Drimmelen, Boo George, Ben Weller and Vinca Petersen.

Gypsy Sport: With experimental hometown heroes Hood by Air and Telfar not on the NYFW: Men’s roster, the ball is in Gypsy Sport’s court to bring the unexpected and progressive vibes New York has come to expect. Having staged a guerrilla fashion show in Washington Square Park and a genderless carnival for past presentations, we can’t wait to see what creative director Rio Uribe and crew have brewing this week. Watch the brand’s trippy fall/winter 15 film while you wait to be wowed.
