Happy Monday! The new week is here and with it comes the chance to delve deep into some fresh culture and fashion. From a re-release of a vital book on trans existence to the abortion drama winning awards around the world, here’s the latest i-D guide.

    Wear… éliou

No man’s wardrobe is as coveted as Harry Styles’ is. And while he’s decked out in custom gear on stage at shows and in his music videos, every so often he’ll wear a piece his fans — if they have the money — can buy themselves. One of the most lusted over parts is his jewellery, and a lot of it is by the brilliant éliou. Their pieces harken back to childhood beach holidays, and are guaranteed to put a grin on your face. Buy their necklaces, earrings and bracelets at Mr Porter and Net a Porter now.

    Watch… Happening

The winner of the Golden Lion at the 2021 Venice Film Festival (a prize previously won by Nomadland and, erm, Joker), Happening is a low-key but impactful drama based on the Annie Ernaux memoir of the same name. It tracks the famous essayist’s journey to seeking an abortion in 20th century France, at a time when it was illegal to do so. It will be released in US cinemas on 6 May and is out now in the UK.

    Depressed in the tropics II

See… Tropical Depression by Cassi Namoda

Cassi Namoda spoke to i-D in 2020 about an exhibition of her work in London’s Mayfair. At the time, our Fashion Features Editor Mahoro Seward highlighted the combating, “curious marriage of bliss and pain” that threads through her work. The title of her new exhibition, Tropical Depression, echoes that conflict of light and dark. Made in Cape Town this past year, it’s work that explores the destructive power of nature, human malady, war, colonialism and the position of women. You can catch Tropical Depression at the Xavier Hufkens Gallery until 28 May. More information can be found here.
