As far as iconic couples go, none seem more quintessentially “New York” than Yoko Ono and John Lennon. And to make the duo even more NYC-centric, yesterday, the Big Apple officially declared July 29 John Lennon Day.

On the inaugural Lennon day, non-for-profit Art for Amnesty unveiled a giant tapestry in honor of John that will indefinitely remain at the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration. The unveiling ceremony was attended by fellow activists like U2’s Bono and Pussy Riot’s Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, and marks the 40th anniversary of the Beatle getting his green card.

Yoko Ono even showed her love for John in the twittersphere by tweeting a heartfelt message.

Yoko started the celebratory and emotional day by announcing her newest collaborative album Yes, I am a Witch, Too, which is set to drop in early 2016. The album is a sequel to her 2007 album Yes, I am a Witch, and will feature collabs with Bjorn and John, Death Cab for Cutie, and a list of other rad musicians.

    Happy belated John Lennon Day!
