Between helming the ship here at i-D and his new gig as Sabato de Sarno’s go-to stylist at Gucci, Alastair McKimm is a very busy man. And yet, still, he’s managed to find the time to put out a whole new capsule collection for i-D faves Sky High Farm Workwear

Forming part of the brand-cum-social enterprise’s AW23 offering, “El Mundo es Un Pañuelo/It’s A Small World”, the wider collection explores notions of mutual support, underscoring the fact that, at the end of it all, we are all neighbours on this good green earth, a fact that entails common responsibility of looking after. Of course, this is the founding ethos of the brand itself, which was created through a partnership between artist Dan Colen & Daphne Seybold and Dover Street Market Paris as a demonstration of how fashion’s inherently capitalist market logic can be geared towards turning a social profit – specifically, towards creating a more equitable food system. How? Well, profits from sales of Sky High Farm Workwear are directed toward Sky High Farm 501 (c)(3), “assisting in the Farm’s work to ensure that everyone has access to the resources they need to sustain themselves, including high-quality, culturally appropriate food,” as well as promoting regenerative farming practices.

Where does Alastair come in? For this collection, he was among a coterie of the brand’s friends and collaborators invited to work on a selection of pieces, with the i-D EIC joined by Euphoria costume designer and stylist Heidi Bivens, Harper’s Bazaar editor-in-chief Samira Nasr and artist and graphic designer Shana Sadeghi-Ray. For his capsule, Alastair was inspired to “create a blank canvas to celebrate and promote the mission of Sky High Farm,” he shares, culminating in an edit of shirts, tees and slacks crafted from deadstock canvas and cotton. Captured in a campaign shot by Alastair’s regular collaboration Mario Sorrenti, revealed here exclusively, the pieces act as literal blank canvases for the message at the heart of Sky High Farm Workwear’s mission, bearing the words: FEED THE PEOPLE. FOOD IS POWER.

Given the outsized positive social contribution that sales of the pieces make, it all makes for some seriously guilt-free shopping. Head here from 10am EST on September 9th to shop Alastair’s capsule and the wider Sky High Farm Workwear AW23 collection – for the greater good!
